Nas delivered a fitting tribute to Prodigy this weekend, just days after the Queensbridge rapper was laid to rest.
During his performance at the Netherlands' Woo Hah! festival, Nas performed one of Mobb Deep’s most recognizable records: “Shook Ones, Pt. II” off the group’s 1995 album The Infamous. The Illmatic artist rapped the song’s hook while a photo of Prodigy was placed on the backdrop. Nas also instructed the crowd to chant “R.I.P., Prodigy!” several times, before ending the performance with “We love you, Prodigy.”
You can check out the tribute in the footage captured by an audience member above.
Prodigy died on June 20 from complications related to his sickle-cell anemia. Since then, many figures in the hip-hop community have paid tribute to his life and career. Nas previously shared an Instagram post in which he paid his respects to late rapper and expressed how grateful he was they were able to speak before Prodigy’s death. As many fans know, the two had a complicated relationship, which included some lyrical jabs; however, it was reported that the rappers officially squashed their beef after Prodigy was released from prison in 2011.
