Put away your countdown clocks, fellas. Sixteen-year-old actress Saoirse Ronan is going to cause nerdgasms the world over now that casting director Ros Hubbard has revealed that she will be in director Peter Jackson's adaptation of the J. R. R. Tolkien classic The Hobbit. Ronan, who worked with Jackson on The Lovely Bones, has been rumored to play the part of Itaril for months, but this is the first confirmation that she's joined the cast. What role she'll play is not yet known, though we're sure she will play a role in lots of young nerds discovering their sexuality.

Filming on the Lord of the Rings prequel has been delayed after Peter Jackson was taken into hospital for surgery. In the meantime, fans can look forward to seeing the Irish actress showcasing her deadlier side as a teenage assassin in the adventure-thriller Hanna, which hits theaters this April.
