Based out of Boulder, Avery is a small, relatively new brewery. They first came on the scene in 1993, using only a seven barrel tank. In 2011 they now have over 50 tanks, holding a number of different volumes of beer. The New World Porter is a recent seasonal release that will be available through April.

Out of the bottle and into your glass, the New World Porter is dark, a night sky without the stars. The head is resilient and the aroma is strong, a result of the dry hopping process. Rich notes of coffee and chocolate are noticeable from the first sip, not surprising given that this is a porter. There's a slight tang of alcohol, but it's muted quickly enough. The beer finishes well, making for a solid porter.
