Trailer Park: “What’s Your Number?” (Starring Anna Faris)

The comedienne attempts to find "the one" out of a long list of past lovers.

Beginning with her recurring role in the Scary Movie franchise, Anna Faris has continually proven herself as an attractive actress who’s actually funny. Although it’s easy to dismiss her body of work as a bunch of nonsensical comedies, she’s also shown a bit of range in unfunny, and critically embraced, indie movies like May and Brokeback Mountain.

All that her résumé needs is one substantial hit as a leading lady. Can this sexually driven romantic comedy do just that?

After watching the trailer, we're not so optimistic. Faris plays an aging single woman who faces the fact that she’s dated more men than the national average. So instead of moving forward, she searches through her roster of ex-boyfriends in hopes of finding the one who got away. Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, Captain America: The First Avenger) plays her neighbor who sets out to help her. But like most films of this nature, they eventually fall in love; OK, so we haven't seen the movie yet, but it's a pretty safe assumption.

The plot and punchlines seem generic, and although we shamefully enjoyed director Mark Mylod’s Ali G Indahouse, we’re not impressed here. We are, however, a bit surprised to see the impressive series of actors who are playing Faris’ exes (Chris Pratt, Andy Samberg, Joel McHale, Thomas Lennon, Zachary Quinto, Anthony Mackie, and Martin Freeman), and the trailer appears to sell those interactions as the movie's highlights.

We’ll find out if the film is better than expected on September 30.
