This really is one of the more disturbing movies of the past decade, but that doesn’t make it bad. Korean director Park Chan-wook weaves a fascinating yarn about a Seoul businessman who is abducted and held in one room with nothing but a television for 15 years. When he is finally released, he and his trusty hammer seek revenge. Along the way, there’s a litany of heinousness: a live octopus is consumed, limbs are removed, and upsetting family secrets are spilled. Sound confusing? It makes terrible, terrible sense once you see it. Truly a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience.—Finn Cohen
