George Lopez: from 11 p.m. host to canceled in less than one year? Possibly. According to Variety, TBS executives have informed Lopez and the producers of Lopez Tonight that they need more time to decide on a third season pick-up.
The problems are the ratings: despite an initial boost of visibility from having Conan O'Brien as a lead-in, Lopez Tonight has fallen in the key demos over the last few months (something not helped by the fact that Conan is also down in the ratings since its debut in the fall of 2009). This doesn't necessarily mean that Lopez Tonight is finished—TBS has until August to decide on the pick-up—but it also doesn't inspire much confidence.
For his part, Lopez seemed hopeful for a renewal during upfronts last week. Fingers crossed, George!
