Apple is currently valued at $301 billion, compared to market caps of about $200 billion for Microsoft, $73 billion for Hewlett-Packard, and $29 billion for Dell.

Figures such as these tend to fluctuate easily—akin to your favorite rapper’s net worth according to Forbes magazine—but as TechCrunch points out, they’re good indicators of current market trends. Only in May 2010 did Apple surpass Microsoft’s market cap. About a decade ago, Apple came in at only about $8 billion, compared to Microsoft’s cap of close to $400 million. We’ve seen a reverse of about $500 billion over the past decade, as the gap between the Cupertino company and Redmond-based Microsoft is about $100 billion in Apple’s favor.
