Jim Carrey's latest, Mr. Popper's Penguins (in theaters June 17) doesn't exactly have us reeling with anticipation, nor look even half as funny as his best comedies—flicks that the comedian/actor seems interested in resurrecting. "We're talking about maybe returning to some old characters that everyone has been asking about," he teased while speaking with Coming Soon. Those "old characters" the funnyman is thinking of resurrecting is Bruce Almighty and his Lloyd Christmas stooge from Dumb and Dumber.

The latter Bobby and Peter Farrelly directed comedy paired Carrey with Jeff Daniels and was a breakout role for the then 32-year-old star in 1994. Bruce Almighty, released in 2003, was an international juggernaut, grossing $485 million overseas. Each hit spawned a terrible quasi-sequel without Carrey's involvement. Dumb And Dumber was given a prequel in 2003 with Dumb And Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, and then there was Evan Almighty in 2007, featuring Steve Carell as the lead.

So now the question is, does Carrey's interest in revisiting past hits sound like a great idea for longtime fans or lazy cash-grabbing?
