We’ve gotten the scoop on Wale’s favorite places to shop, eat, drink and hear music. Next up, Wale picks his favorite local acts – check them out in DC and beyond!

Rye Rye

This vivacious Baltimore native is ready to take clubs by storm with the summer release of her debut album Go! Pop! Bang! After years of getting groomed by style and music mentor M.I.A, she has stepped up her game with big stage shows that include gangs of back up dancers and grimy party jams that always whip the crowds into a frenzy. Grab her leaked track “Sunshine” and get ready to dance…hard.

Fat Trel

The frequently shirtless Fat Trel has snagged the music industry’s attention – including Wale’s -  with his unexpectedly raw, street sound. His ability to combine stories from the street with a great sense of humor have earned him comparisons to Gucci Mane. Fat Trel and his personal production and management team, the Basshedz, have teamed up with Wale and his roster of artists, the Board of Administration, to refine his skills and spread his buzz. Check out his mix tapes “No Secrets” and “April Foolz” to see what everyone in DC is talking about.

XO

Jamaal Walton, also known as X.O. (meaning “unknown origin”) and even Uptown XO, blends his soulful brand of music with gritty lyrics that portray the life of a District of Columbia resident. XO, hit the DMV scene as a host of a twice-weekly open mic night and then also began to perform with a group called Diamond District with Oddisee and YU.  More recently, his collaboration with Wale on his mixtape, “The Takeover Part 2”, and his joint mixtape, “Timeless” with notable producer Judah have put him on the map and have the underground hip hop fans in DC and beyond hungry for more…
