Trailer Park: “Contagion” Will Make You Think Twice About Going Outside

Germaphobes, be warned!

The end of the world has been used as a plot device so many times recently that we’re pretty sure that the inevitable Sex And The City 3 will even feature an asteroid or killer virus sub-plot. Usually, the disasters get averted, leaving the main characters and the audience satisfied with a happy ending (War Of The Worlds anyone?). But prolific director Stephen Soderbergh’s new thriller, Contagion, not only depicts one of the most realistic epidemics to ever hit the world, but it may also change the way you function in society.

Based around a strain of bird-flu that has grown wildly out of control, Contagion hits close to home because it's deeply entrenched in science fact as opposed to science fiction. With a loaded cast that's comprised of Matt Damon, Marion Cotillard, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, amongst others, Soderbergh has realized that in order for the audience to believe that the world is ending, he needed actors that believed it first.

There's a lot to get frightened about from this trailer, but the most unsettling part of the footage is the relatively harmless way in which people begin to get infected with this deadly disease. From incidental skin contact, to touching doorknobs, or even just using a hotel bed, the virus spreads at an alarming rate. Soderbergh also uses drab colors and quick cuts to add to the drama and intensifies the panic.

Contagion could make people deathly afraid of public spaces in the same way that Jaws made people avoid the ocean. Will Soderbergh's real-life horror flick be year's the most frightening movie? We’ll see when it’s released on September 9.
