Arthouse Alert: Horror Double Feature with "Halloween II" & "The Serpent and the Rainbow" in Durham, N.C. Friday (8/5)

Zombies twice over (if you're willing to grant MM zombie status).

None

The purists at Retrofantasma, the fantasy/horror/cult film aficionados based in Durham, N.C., have been showing 35mm prints of their favorite films for the past decade. As their regular home at the legendary Carolina Theatre is renovated for the summer, they’ve set up shop a few blocks away at the Casbah, part of the city’s newly bustling downtown.

This week, they’ve got another double feature lined up. Halloween II (1981), of course, picks up where the original horror flick left off, and—surprise!—Michael Myers is back to make Jamie Lee Curtis’ life miserable again. Wes Craven’s 1988 adaptation of The Serpent and the Rainbow, a true story about one scientist’s examination of the very real zombification of people in Haiti, follows up, and while it takes a much different path than the book, it’s still full of zombies, which is nothing to sneeze at. If you show up early at the Casbah, you can qualify for free door prizes, too.
