Director Ruben Fleischer is looking to make The Gangster Squad as explosive as it can be by adding Nick Nolte to the cast. After hiring notoriously off-kilter personalities such as Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, and Giovanni Ribisi to the Los Angeles-themed noir thriller, Nolte seems to be the crazy cherry on top. The Oscar-nominee, who turns in a stellar performance in the MMA drama Warrior, will play LAPD police chief Bill Parker.

Portraying the newly appointed head of the force, Nolte's Parker is charged with the task of bringing down the gangster Mickey Cohen (Penn) and puts together the eponymous task force. Some are saying that The Gangster Squad is set to rival The Avengers in terms of its ensemble casting. We say that this is one of the most exciting line-ups in decades and we can't wait till it begins rolling cameras on next week!

In addition to the headlining stars, Mirelle Enos, Emma Stone, Anthony Mackie, Michael Pena, Robert Patrick, Frank Grillo, and Holt McCallany also star. The Gangster Squad aims to shoot up the box office charts when it comes to theaters in 2013.
