After rumors had been flying around, it’s now been confirmed that that tech giants Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi will combine their manufacturing efforts of LCD screens, but only for smaller and medium-sized devices (phones and tablets). The partnership was aided by a large financial contribution by the Network Corporation of Japan, which will own a large part of the new company.

By combining forces, the three companies will command 20-percent of the LCD screen market. Perhaps, the three Japanese companies are drawing a line in the sand in a nationalistic rivalry against their Korean competitors, Samsung and LG. Or not. Regardless, innovation should be the winner.
