Rumor: "Iron Man 3" Will Be Shot In North Carolina

If so, why is Tony Starks heading down south?

None

Though Tony Starks will make his presence known next summer as part of the superhero ensemble, The Avengers, Marvel Studios is already prepping his next solo adventure with Iron Man 3. While the first two films were shot primarily in Los Angeles, Latino Review reports that the third outing is eyeing production in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Little is known about the plot of the film, but insiders are saying that Iron Man 3 will take over 10 sound stages at the city's Screen Gems Studios with production targeted to begin next June. Shane Black will take the director's seat and will co-write the film alongside Drew Pearce. At this time, Robert Downey Jr. is the only confirmed cast member, though it's highly likely that cohorts Don Cheadle and Gwyneth Paltrow will return.

The second Iron Man sequel will be the first Marvel movie post-The Avengers, in which the snarky inventor will fight alongside Captain America, Thor, and The Incredible Hulk. We're only asking that some leave the garage door open for Jon Favreau's Happy Hogan character to return, as Iron Man 3 comes to theaters on May 3, 2013.
