2008's Wanted proved that a movie could still make a boatload of cash without featuring a single entertaining frame of film. Loosely based on the comic book of the same name, the movie featured tons of action, sex appeal, and a horribly contrived plot device known as the "Loom of Fate." But despite its failings, The Wrap is reporting that Universal is deep into development on Wanted 2, and the studio has apparently hired the writers of the original, Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, to write the sequel.
"We just always loved the Wanted world and loved working with Universal and (director) Timur (Bekmambetov) on the first one, so we're excited," Haas told The Wrap. He also said he would love Bekmambetov to return as director, "but he's a busy guy."
Apparently, Wanted 2 is going to take place a couple of years after the original and will once again revolve around the character of Wesley, played in the original by James McAvoy. But it is unknown whether or not any cast member from the original will be back for the sequel.
