Xbox Live Could Offer Cable TV Via Comcast

Xbox 360 could be true all-in-one device.

Rather than wait for cable to become completely obsolete, Comcast is reportedly aligning itself with Verizon and Microsoft to offer streaming content subscriptions through Xbox Live.

The move would also give Microsoft a distinct and critical advantage in the streaming TV department as Xbox Live already offers Netflix and Hulu Plus, placing them firmly ahead of competitors Apple TV and Google TV, both of which have struggled to assert themselves as popular services.

With 53 Million subscribers, Xbox Live is much more ubiquitous than other niche-driven top of the set boxes. Comcast has not been shy about aggressively pursuing opportunities to keep their brand alive on the internet, which offers a direct threat to cable.
