Two of the heavy hitters from North Carolina’s defunct Little Brother play a homecoming show of sorts to celebrate their new respective solo albums. 9th Wonder has been one of hip-hop’s most prolific producers for almost a decade now, and also one of the most divisive — stand in line at a hip-hop show and you’ll find someone willing to argue about the relative merits of his snare sounds. His new album, The Wonder Years, is a more laid-back affair, merging the stiff lock of his trademark beats with lush beds of vocals and horns.

Phonte’s Charity Starts at Home has the same playful attitude that the MC is known for, infused with surprisingly crisp beats and appearances by fellow N.C. rapper Median and Pharoahe Monch. All in all, this show is a reminder of the vibrant scene that North Carolina still harbors.
