It looks like smartphone enthusiasts will have to wait a little longer to see the latest and greatest from Google and Samsung. The two companies have decided to postpone a highly anticipated media event scheduled for next week in light of the recent passing of Steve Jobs.

The event, which would have taken place in San Diego during the CTIA mobile conference on October 11, was widely believed to be a platform for the unveiling of Google's latest Nexus phone as well as an all-new version of the Android operating system dubbed "Ice Cream Sandwich.' But since Jobs's death has left many in the silicon valley community mourning, the two company's decided proceeding with the launch would be inappropriate.

“We believe this is not the right time to announce a new product as the world expresses tribute to Steve Jobs’s passing,” the companies said in a statement.

The event will be rescheduled for a later date.
