Ever watch HBO’s Big Love, that show about a polygamist and his three wives in Utah? Well, before he was running three households, Bill Paxton got turned into an anthropomorphic pile of dung by supermodel Kelly LeBrock in 1985’s party classic Weird Science.
Starring Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell-Smith as two horny teenagers who decide to create their own woman using a computer, an issue of Playboy and a bra, the film still stands as one of the monuments of '80s absurdity that films in 2011 are futilely attempting to ape. There’s the mutant from The Hills Have Eyes and one of the vagabond leaders from The Road Warrior crashing a dance party; Robert Downey, Jr.; and the aforementioned confrontation between Paxton's scene-stealing turn as a dung creature, and LeBrock's collagen-infused Amazon goddess.
One of John Hughes' finest works, which actually does manage to be poignant among all the insanity.
