"The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" Is Set To Become A Comic Adaptation At Vertigo

DC's mature comic book imprint is about to tackle one of its most graphic properties.

In an attempt to keep the company fresh and appeal to a wider audience, DC Entertainment is set to turn The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and its sequels, into a series of graphic novels, according to the company's blog. This news may make some fans of the novels role their eyes, but the company is doing the smart thing by releasing the books under its mature comic book line, Vertigo. This will ensure that none of the more violent and disturbing material will be cut out in order to appease a younger fan base.

“The intricate characters and stories Larsson created in the Millennium Trilogy are a perfect match for the graphic novel format, where we can bring Lisbeth Salander to life in entirely new, visually compelling ways,” stated Dan DiDio, Co-Publisher of DC Entertainment. “It’s a distinct honor to work on a story that is already so popular with millions of readers around the world.”

Every book in author Steig Larson's trilogy will be adapted, starting with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in 2012, The Girl who Played with Fire in 2013, and The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest in 2014. Every installment will be presented in two separate graphic novels, due to the length of the source material. The company has yet to reveal what the creative teams behind these books will be.
