Getting arrested was the thing to do this weekend, and Dr. Cornel West had the perfect plan. While standing on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court, Dr. West declared that the day the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial was dedicated would not end without someone being arrested. With that said, West was placed under arrest.

By taking his demonstration to the door of the Supreme Court, West managed to kill two birds with one stone. In addition to honoring Dr. King, West showed his continued support for Occupy Wall Street. The Supreme Court was an ideal location for this, because as West noted before being arrested there’s “a relation between corporate greed and what goes on too often in Supreme Court decisions.”

West’s web site mentions that he spent last night in jail, and he’s due to appear in court this afternoon on charges of “trespassing on the steps of the Supreme Court.” He’s made his point, so we doubt he cares.
