Now that the negotiations are over, Deadline is reporting that Showtime has reached a deal with Michael C. Hall to return to his role on the hit show Dexter for another two seasons. This, obviously, led to a quick decision to renew the show itself as well. This extension will bring Dexter through its eighth season, which is a huge achievement for a show with such a violent nature on a pay cable channel.

Not only has the show maintained its success for six seasons, but it has actually improved in the ratings recently as well. Seasons seven and eight of Dexter will each run for 12 episodes, and production will begin on season seven next year.

Dexter‘s enormous success is a real tribute to the great achievements of its cast, producers, and the powerhouse performance of Michael C. Hall,” Showtime's entertainment President, David Nevins, explained in a statement, “The series is bigger than it’s ever been in its sixth season, both in terms of audience and its impact on the cultural landscape."
