Panasonic Unveils The Lumix GX1 Micro Four Thirds Camera

Another impressive mirrorless shooter.

Panasonic recently took the wraps off the all new Lumix GX1, a micro four thirds camera that picks up where the company's highly regarded GF series left off. The GX1 takes its style cues mainly from the GF1, which helped mirrorless cameras win both professional acclaim and mainstream adoption back in 2009. (The latest GF model, the GF3, took things in an unfortunate cutesy direction).

Inside, the GX1 has the 16 megapixel Live MOS sensor of the higher-end G3, impressive low-light performance with an ISO max of 12800, new touch-screen controls, and an ultra-fast "Light Speed" auto focus system.

The GX1 goes for $699 without a body, $799 with a 14-42 mm kit lens, or $949 with Panasonic's new X series zoom lens. It'll be available from retailers starting mid-December.
