Google Granted Patent For Driver-Less Cars

Threatening chauffeurs everywhere, the U.S. Patent Office awarded Google a patent for mixed-mode autonomous vehicles, cars that can alternate between drivers and the cars themselves controlling the wheel.

The technology involves reference indicators (similar to QR codes) found on roads that allow a vehicle to determine its location and then via URL, know how to proceed in terms of speed and direction.
