To promote the upcoming release of Chinese game “Age of Wulin,” developer Snail Games held an auction, selling off virtual goods for use in the game. The Lordly Spear Sheath went for 2,500 real dollars. But the big-ticket item: a sword that sold for a staggering $16,000.

Reminding you again, this was real people currency. And again, the game hasn’t even dropped yet, so there’s a fair chance it completely blows. The auction winner clearly doesn’t care.

So, if you’re broke and out of work, get in on this virtual economic gold rush. Whether its FarmVille or Second Life, there’s some serious cash to be made.
