For over a year now, sci-fi audiences have been scratching their heads over Ridley Scott's mysterious new project, Prometheus. At first it was billed as a sequel to the director's hit movie, Alien, then it was rumored to be a prequel, and after that, many claimed it had no relation to the original at all. Now with the release of the first teaser trailer for the movie, things have become more clear and confusing all at the same time.

First off, the trailer reveals very little about the movie's plot or characters; instead, what we're left with is the introduction to tone and mood, courtesy of Scott. The quick one-liners and plot reveals that pollute most trailers take a back seat to a slow build that undoubtedly shares an aesthetic similarity to Alien. In fact, after viewing this trailer, we are completely convinced that the two movies will be connected in a big way.

Unfortunately, other than that, not much is shown here. We see glimpses of Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, and Idris Alba here, but we know nothing about them. The movie is still as mysterious as ever, and this trailer gives us more questions than answers to ponder. But in a world where most trailers give away everything good about a movie months before it's released, this enigmatic footage from Prometheus is a welcome sight.

Prometheus hits theaters on June 8, 2012.
