First Details Emerge About Windows Phone 8

Microsoft's answer to iOS 5 and Ice Cream Sandwich.

None

On paper, Apollo—otherwise known as Windows Phone 8—could very well rival iOS 5 and Android for mobile OS supremacy. For starters, it finally utilizes Microsoft’s acquisition of Skype—a new, heavily integrated app for the VoIP will debut with Apollo, with an identical interface to making voice calls. Also, the new OS will support dual-core processors, four different resolutions, as well as near-field communication so you can tap your device with another to share content. And naturally, there’s increased integration between the mobile OS and the desktop version of Windows 8.

Apollo’s version of Internet Explorer could also outgun Chrome and Safari. Using a proxy server, IE will compress websites by up to 30 percent for faster browsing.
