Groupon Testing New 'VIP' Service

New business model offers perks at a price.

Groupon, the popular online deals service, has begun testing a new paid program that will offer customers a suite of new privileges.

The program, called "Groupon VIP," costs $30 per year and allows customers to purchase deals earlier than others, swap them out for other deals at any time and even buy certain expired deals from the site's back catalog.

Groupon is currently testing VIP in a few select markets and has not yet committed to offering it on a nation-wide basis. We're betting the new business model could give the company a much needed boost, however.

Would you pay for the new privileges?
