Disney has given the green light for a Muppets sequel to move forward with director James Bobin and co-writer Nicholas Stoller both returning from the original, but Vulture is reporting that Jason Segel won't be coming back as a writer this time around. With Segel still committed to How I Met Your Mother, and the upcoming films Five Year Engagement and This Is Forty, his schedule won't leave him enough time to write another Muppets movie, according to the site.

However, fans of the original might still be in for some good news because a Disney insider told Vulture that it is possible that Segel could star in the sequel, he just won't write it. With how much emotion and dedication Segel brought to the original, his absence will undoubtedly be felt, but with Bobin and Stoller confirmed to return, they should still be able to recapture the magic that made The Muppets one of the better films of 2011.
