With Joss Whedon'sAvengers about two months away from its release, Marvel is wasting no time in figuring out what to do with their roster of characters after this summer's blockbuster ensemble piece hits theaters. According to Vulture, the studio already has a shortlist of talent picked out to potentially direct Captain America 2, which is set for a 2014 release.

The site is reporting that F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job), George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau), and Anthony & Joseph Russo (You, Me and Dupree, Community) are all up for consideration. The Russo's might seem like an odd choice, but apparently they got along with Marvel President of Production Kevin Feige well enough to actually become serious contenders.

“Kevin is a ‘vibe guy,'” one source told Vulture. “He likes to see if he gets along with people before he’ll decide about spending the next two years with them. And apparently, they hit it off with Kevin in the room.”

Let's be honest: this list doesn't feature any name that is really impressive. And when two potential directors are on here simply because they allegedly became buddies with the producer, you know your production has its priorities skewed. Let's hope that Marvel has a few more tricks up its sleeve, because at this point we can't image the dudes who directed You, Me and Dupree helming a Captain America movie.

Meetings with all the potential directors will be held early next month, and a final decision could be made as early as mid-April.
