A teenager was killed early Wednesday morning after being shot at a Houston house party that was supposedly inspired by the recent movie, Project X, according to Yahoo News. The unidentified victim died of his wounds at Ben Taub General Hospital after police had to come to the house and break up the party.
In the days before the party, news of the event began to spread quickly on Facebook and Twitter, and it allegedly attracted between 500 and 1,000 guests, according to the site.
Daniel Menjivara, a 22-year-old college student, told the site, "Kids took to the streets, but the parking lot was overpacked so you couldn't get out. It was just people in the actual street. They got into arguments and started shooting each other."
Another party attendee, Willie Armstrong, witnessed the shooting and told the site, "[The gunman] was just walking, and he pulled out a gun and started shooting, like for no reason." He continued, "He shot the boy in the back of the head and fell on the ground. He started shooting at the crowds, but then he ran through the field."
Project X made decent money at the box office because of its low budget, but it was absolutely savaged by critics. A potential sequel was planned a few days after its release, but now those plans might be on hold as Warner Brothers will have to navigate through this PR disaster and the potential lawsuits that might come with it.
