THQ has announced to investors that the massively multiplayer Warhammer 40K: Dark Millenium Online has undergone several changes, first and foremost being that it's no longer an MMO. Instead, they're changing the game into a "premium experience with single and multiplayer gameplay, robust digital content and community features," according to THQ CEO Brian Farrell.

He cited "changing market dynamics and the additional investment required to complete the game as an MMO" as the reasons behind the shift, adding, "Because we believe strongly in the high-quality and vast creative work that is in production, this is the right decision for both our portfolio and for gamers devoted to this powerful property."

As an unfortunate side effect, 79 employees from THQ studios Relic Entertainment and Vigil Games are losing their jobs. We wish them the best of luck.

Do you feel this is the right decision for the game? Has The Old Republic proved once and for all that nothing can topple WoW in the MMO space? Let us know what you think in the comments or on Twitter.
