Yesterday marked the 100th anniversary of the Titanic tragedy, and while a slew of uninformed kids didn't even know the event was a non-fictional occurrence, another strange story has emerged surrounding the film. Due to the "realer than most" appearance of Titanic 3D, the Chinese government has elected to censor Kate Winslet's nude scene because they're afraid that viewers will try to cop a feel.

Here's the official statement that the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television released:

"Considering the vivid 3D effects, we fear that viewers may reach out their hands for a touch and thus interrupt other people’s viewing."

The original scene baring Winslet's breasts was nixed in favor of a head-and-shoulders close-up. It's well known that China exercises tight control over foreign media entering the country, but what's really good with thinking people are that stupid?

Worse, a pissed-off commenter from the blog Offbeat China expressed his extreme disappointment, saying "I waited 15 years to see 3D boobs, not 3D iceberg." That tragedy just might rival the original.
