Just when you thought it was safe to stop watching The Late Show with David Letterman, Cobie Smulders shows up as a guest and premieres a brand-new clip from The Avengers. Don't worry; if you skipped Letterman, we have the clip here for your viewing pleasure.
In this new footage, we see Maria Hill (Smulders) arguing with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) over what to do with the population of New York if the Tesseract (or "Cosmic Cube" for you comic junkies) unleashes its energy on the city. We can assume that Loki is in possession of the Cube, which was hinted at during the end of Thor.
This is the first time that Smulders has been at the forefront of an Avengers clip, so it's nice to finally get a feel of how she is going to play Maria Hill. In the comics, Hill eventually becomes Director of S.H.I.E.L.D for a brief time, so Smulders' role could potentially expand in the sequels.
