Trailer Park: Woody Allen's "To Rome With Love" Proves That He Is Still As Relevant As Ever

The venerable director is back with a movie about sex. Who would have guessed it?

At the age of 76, Woody Allen is currently on a hot streak that few people ever would have predicted. Recent hits like Vicky Christina Barcelona, Whatever Works, and the Academy Award nominated Midnight in Paris have brought longtime Woody fans back into the fold, and also exposed him to an entirely new generation of cinephiles. And the trailer for his latest movie, To Rome with Love, looks like his string of success will continue.

Set up in the form of four vignettes focusing on different characters as they navigate through their rocky romantic conquests, To Rome with Love looks like typical Allen. There are some great one-liners and observations throughout, and his unabashed views on sex are on full display. Alec Baldwin, Penelope Cruz, Jesse Eisenberg, Roberto Benigni, and Allen himself all look perfect in their respective roles, and it seems like each vignette will be different in tone from the others. From the looks of it, this movie has much more of a pure comedic slant than Allen's recent  work.

For most directors, the prospect of a movie split up into four shorter vignettes would lead to a lot of doubting, but this is Woody Allen. The man simply knows how to make a great movie, and his recent European settings have seemingly injected new life and creativity into him.

To Rome with Love hits theaters on June 22.
