So, by the way, Minecraft has apparently broken every record for day-one Xbox Live Arcade sales, recouping its development costs within the first hour. That's mind-blowing.

But not everyone thinks so—Fez developer Phil Fish says Minecraft devs Mojang have received special treatment from Microsoft.

Fish tends to make headlines for being, uh…outspoken. “[H]ow did you get those stats from MS?” he asked. “[W]e still dont know exactly how much fez sold almost a month later. you get stats in 24 hours?”

Mojang's Notch responded somewhat sympathetically, though he wasn't apologetic. The conversation continued when Fish claimed that unlike Mojang, "every other developer on the platform is told that [free updates] are simply not an option."

Notch replied that they “had to fight for that, and we got a limited number of them. Not sure why they don’t like it.”

Fish later clarified that “[M]inecraft did not get preferencial [sic] treatment regarding sale stats. just for the free updates!”

Glad to hear that Minecraft is getting free updates. But should Mojang get preferential treatment over other indie devs just because their game is more popular? Or is Phil Fish just blowing hot air like usual? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter.
