XCOM: Enemy Unknown is coming to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on October 9th, according to publisher 2K Games.

Alongside the announcement, developer Firaxis released a new making-of featurette talking about the XCOM home base, which serves as the player's hub for co-ordinating strategies, upgrading equipment, etc.

Like what you see? Signing up for duty early by pre-ordering the game will net you the "Elite Soldier" DLC pack, which adds an extra man to your team whose design was inspired by the original XCOM. (Isn't the whole game inspired by the original XCOM, though?)

Enemy Unknown will fill the gap in 2K's release schedule caused by Bioshock Infinite's recent delay to early 2013. Murmurs that GTA V would be taking Infinite's release slot have been spreading since the delay was announced. While XCOM's presence doesn't necessarily mean that won't still happen, the ominous gap that led to the rumor has now been filled.
