A poor decision has a Colorado parent in the hot seat after a photo of a toddler and a gas can chillin’ in the back seat of a car made its way to the Colorado Department of Transportation. The worst is part that the gas can is strapped into the car seat instead of the child.

CDOT posted the photo on its website, prompting people to think it was staged. CDOT issued this statement in response:

We want to make it clear that this photo was NOT staged or altered, except to protect the identity of the child. We take this subject very seriously. We wish this photo wasn't real, but in fact it is a real photo taken after a traffic stop by Aurora Police Department.

This happened during a seat-belt enforcement campaign in Aurora, which makes the timing of the photo even worse. The driver was issued three citations.
