Infinity Blade is the most profitable franchise in the history of Epic Games, according to Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney. Speaking at GDC Taipei, Sweeney specifically said that "in terms of man years invested versus revenue, it [Infinity Blade] is more profitable than Gears of War."

After the talk, Epic Games president Mark Rein clarified Infinity Blade is more profitable in terms of "man years versus revenue", but not total profit.

Sweeney had been discussing the role of free-to-play gaming in the future of the gaming industry, a popular topic these days. Sweeney said "it is a very realistic possibility" that the freemium gameplay model will make its way to consoles in the next generation.

"Activision invests almost $100 million per year in Call of Duty. And who can realistically afford to do that?"

Infinity Blade has been a massive success since the series debuted on iOS in 2010. The original Infinity Blade has grossed over $23 million in less than two years, according to Eurogamer. The sequel, Infinity Blade II, netted over $5 million in its first month on the app store.
