It got off to a rocky start, but Japan appears to finally be warming up to Sony's PS Vita.

The Vita has outsold its predecessor, the PSP, in Japan this week for the first time in five months, and things are looking up for the dual-stick handheld system.

Sales went up 77 percent from 7,551 units to 13,383 units sold, while the PSP dropped 5 percent from 10,547 units sold to 10,038.

Meanwhile, the 3DS continues to squash Sony's tiny numbers, with 64,875 units this week, down 36 percent from last week’s 101,075. That spike was due to the release of Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D.

Vita sales will likely spike again soon, though, as Persona 4 The Golden came out yesterday in Japan and Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection hits Japan at the end of June.

Will the Vita ever catch up to or surpass the 3DS? When will the PSP slow down? Let us know what you think in the comments or on Twitter.
