RIM CEO: The Company is Not in a "Death Spiral"

According to him, it's going through a tough transition.

Despite delaying its long-awaited BlackBerry 10 phone, cutting 5,000 jobs, and posting a quarterly loss five times larger than anticipated, Research in Motion's new CEO Thorsten Heins wants you to know that the company is not dead, nor is it dying. In an interview with the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. Heins said that the company is in the middle of a transition. "This company is not ignoring the world out there," Heins said during the radio interview. "Nor is it in a death spiral."

That's not how it looks from the outside. BlackBerry's smartphone market share has dwindled to around 11 percent. RIM's next-gen smartphone platform, BlackBerry 10, was supposed to arrive in 2011 but has seen two major push backs with no solid release date. The company has also seen some major executive shake-ups with co-founders Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis stepping down from their co-CEO roles.

Heins believes RIM can turn it all around and reemerge as a force in the smartphone market when the company finally releases BlackBerry 10. Whenever that may be.
