According to Deadline, Universal has hired director Adam Berg to helm a brand-new version of David Cronenberg’s 1983 mind-bender, Videodrome. Never heard of Berg? Well that would make sense because the man has mostly just done commercial directing his whole career, but someone at the studio thinks he’s up to the task of doing justice to Cronenberg’s masterpiece.

But instead of sticking true to the original story and tone, Deadline is reporting that writer Ehren Kruger changed the premise of the movie to revolve around nanotechnology. The site promises that this version of Videodrome will be a “large-scale sci-fi action thriller.” Sounds similar to the direction Sony went with for the recent remake of Total Recall, which just got done bombing hard at the box office.
