Though David Fincher’s 2011 version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo didn’t exactly light up the box office, fans of the novel series should be happy to know that a sequel is still actively being developed by Sony. But according to Entertainment Weekly, it won’t be in theaters next year as originally planned. Screenwriter Steven Zaillian is apparently still working on the script and nothing is moving forward until its completion.

Even more concerning is the fact that Fincher himself isn’t confirmed to return to the director’s chair for the sequel, which would be titled The Girl Who Played With Fire. Fincher is still the studio’s first choice, but it isn’t known if other projects would get in the way. Stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara are still under contract to return, though.
