Recently, it was rumored that 20th Century Foxwas going to hire Joe Carnahan (The Grey) to bring Marvel's Daredevil back to the silver screen in a gritty crime drama based on Frank Miller's "Born Again" storyline. But the studio's inability to buy itself more time before its rights to the character were set to expire might have permanently shelved the project, according to Cinema Blend. Check out the ominous tweet from Carnahan himself.

Think my idea for a certain retro, red-suited, Serpico-styled superhero went up in smoke today kids.

Fox only has until October 10 to get a new Daredevil movie into production, which seems impossible at this point. This means the studio could potentially just give up on the franchise and concentrate on its X-Men movies and Fantastic Four reboot instead. If that happens, the rights to the character will revert back to Marvel, and it could be relaunched in the studio's shared Avengers universe.
