During his keynote speech at QuakeCon 2012 this week, id Software head John Carmack acknowledged that the studio is focusing solely on Doom 4 now.

He said after the launch of Rage, which was met with a mixed reception, they immediately shifted focus to Doom 4 development. That explains why Rage was so poorly supported, particularly on PC.

Furthermore, he shared the news that id's mobile branch, previously responsible for the Rage game on iOS, has been shuttered to make way for Doom 4.

"It was looked at as something that; yes, this is fun, this is fun for the company and its entertaining and it makes money, but it's not a grand slam sort of thing on there," he said. "The Bethesda family really is about swinging for the fences. I hope we get back to mobile in various ways in the future, but the big real aim is blockbuster, AAA titles, and for id that means Doom 4, it means that we get the whole company behind that after we get Doom 3: BFG Edition out the door, essentially everybody will be focused on Doom 4 as a project."

Hopefully the studio learned enough lessons from Rage to make Doom 4 everything fans are hoping for. Are you looking forward to it? What did you think of the last Doom game? Tell us in the comments or on Twitter.
