Pinterest, the social network that allows people to "pin" items and info found elsewhere on the Internet, has finally opened its doors the public, the company announced today via its blog.

Launched in 2010, Pinterest has been an invitation-only service. Granted, getting an invite wasn't too difficult; most who requested an invite got one shortly thereafter. However, despite not being open for registration, the site gained massive momentum over the past year. In January, comScore reported that Pinterest had 11.6 million users, making it the fastest website in history to reach 10 million users.

The reason for the opening to the public, according to Pinterest, is the company finally having the  "have the capacity to offer Pinterest to more people." You can access the site using your Facebook or Twitter login, or sign up using your email address.

That said, we still believe Pinterest is bad for the Internet.
