Al Pacino is set to portray disgraced former Penn State football Head Coach Joe Paterno in a new film about the Jerry Sandusky scandal that rocked the university, according to Deadline. The film will be picked up by ICM Partners next week, and is based on award-winning sportswriter Joe Posnanski's best-selling biography of Paterno.

Reportedly, plot-wise, the film will focus on Paterno's rise to fame as coach, before he discovers that his former defensive coordinator Sandusky is a pedophile whom a graduate student witnessed molesting a young boy in the locker room showers. It will then mainly follow the fallout of Paterno's decision to aid in the cover-up of the scandal instead of alerting the authorities. Pacino's manager, Rick Nicita, will produce.
