With director Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film, The Master, ready to hit theaters in a little over a week, fans of his work can already start looking forward to his future projects as Empire got the scoop on what he might be up to next. According to the site, Anderson is looking to adapt Thomas Pynchon’s latest novel, Inherent Vice, for his next film.
In the article, Anderson describes the work as being "like a Cheech and Chong movie. [Adapting Pychon's work is] just gonna be great and, hopefully, fun." But adapting Pynchon’s novel won’t be easy as the famously-reclusive author’s work is very dense and tough to put on film. However, Inherent Vice is nowhere near as impenetrable as an adaptation of Gravity’s Rainbow would be, and many have called it his most accessible book yet.
Though the site says that Vice will be Anderson’s next project, it isn’t known yet just when things will actually get moving on the production. Until then, movie buffs can catch The Master when it debuts in theaters on September 14.
