Last week we reported that director Rupert Wyatt would most likely not return for the sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, titled Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Now, Deadline has revealed a potential short list of directors that Fox is considering as replacements. At the top of the list is Matt Reeves, who directed Cloverfield. Other names include TheDisappearance Of Alice Creed helmer J. Blakeson, 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, The Impossible helmer Juan Antonio Bayona, and Take Shelter director Jeff Nichols.

Other names on the list include Guillermo del Toro and Looper director, Rian Johnson. However, Johnson’s reps have already denied the report, and del Toro is attached to about half of the projects in development in Hollywood at this time, so we doubt his schedule will be open for this.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has a May 23, 2014 release date already set, so a decision does need to be made soon. Who do you want to take over the franchise? Let us know.
