After a few down weekends for the domestic box office, the movie biz rebounded in a big way with the debut of both Hotel Transylvania and Looper. Hotel Transylvania is estimated to have taken in an impressive $43 million this weekend, while Looper debuted with a solid $21.2 million, according to The Playlist. Interestingly enough, both of these films were put out by Sony. It’s rare for a studio to release two high-profile movies on the same weekend, but it paid off, most likely because each film appealed to an entirely different demographic.

Last weekend’s winner, End of Watch, pulled in another $8 million to put it in third place, Trouble With The Curve made $7.5 million to come in fourth, and House At The End Of The Street made $7.2 to come in fifth place for the weekend. Next weekend's big releases include Taken 2 and Tim Burton's Frankenweenie, so we'll see if either of these can match what Looper and Transylvania did this week.
